FLEXMCS aims at improving electric truck charging infrastructure
FLEXMCS is an EU-funded project that aims at improving electric truck charging infrastructure by developing scalable, energy-efficient megawatt charging hubs that integrate multiport chargers, renewable energy sources, and smart charging management tools. The FLEXMCS project brings together 15 partners from 8 countries and is coordinated by Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
Key facts:
Project full name: Flexible Megawatt Charging Systems, open software architectures, and planning modules creating multi-charger hubs for the European electric mobility system
Project Duration: 01 January 2025 – 30 June 2028
Total Budget: €9.69M
Coordinator: VUB (Prof. dr. Omar Hegazy, EPOWERS Research Group)
Topic: HORIZON-CL5-2024-D5-01-04
Type of action: Innovation Actions
FLEXMCS is focused on overcoming the major obstacles preventing the large-scale rollout of electric heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), via:
Developing energy-efficient megawatt charging hubs.
Integrating renewable energy sources to reduce grid impact.
Creating open software architectures.
Optimizing hub design and locations.
